1971 Plymouth Cuda 440: Regular Car Reviews
We drive the over-hyped, romanticized Plymouth Cuda. It's not a Barracuda. It's a 'Cuda and the muscle car bubble has burst long ago.

Values dropped? Have you shopped for one lately? Stupid high prices across the board!
Cool car but it needs a brake booster.
3:11 HE SAID WHAT
I get that somebody can be too young to understand what high octane was for a muscle car in the late 60s very early 70s. But for God's sake everybody has come to know something called water injection. There was a time when my parents continue to hold on to their 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado which I think is practically the same octane requirement as this, maybe a bit less maybe as low as 96. Install a water injection system stop the problem right there. Preventive maintenance against carbon build-up too.

The skill of being able to drive old technology cars, well, with skill is dying quickly. It’s all in the timing...
Damn right the owner has a zep shirt on lmao
Fuck me, this car is 50 years old
When he said Like before Pennsylvania sinks into the long dark that got me. Why do I still live in PA lol.
I would say Deathproof was the last movie that helped make muscle cars like this popular with the current generation. Well that and Fast and the Furious. People just cancel Dukes of Hazzard out of principle.
Testosterone
All my PlayStation homies drive 454s
It's sad that I knew the owner's tie dye shirt would have a Zeppelin logo on the front before he turned around. That's how I know my time at college was a complete waste. My time in the womb? Even more of a waste
Ps2 is by far the best console ever made. It's not even close.
I've waited years for a XXX reference. (It's a Vin Diesel film)
Was that a Cumtown reference?
This car is on my MT Rushmore of favorite cars of all time.
My favorite muscle car of all time.
Fuck you are exhausting
The official car of "I had one just like it back in high school and wrapped it arround a phone pole......said every old guy at the strip mall parking lot cruise night"
The official car of every bad guy in every action movie from the late 80s to early 90s
It has to be said, the xbox had and still has shit exclusives and has an even worse UI.
My dad once said: "My skoda has more power than my porsche 944 had, its faster around corners and on the straight. but the porsche had two things: rwd and and a big engine. full throttle and you spin your ass and i love it." and thats the same thing but... more. much more
Lol cumtown listener confirmed
How does the guy who opens the hood have such skinny arms with a gut that big?
no. The Playstation 2 was the best console ever made... with the Gamecube close behind.
Console peasants are like the Cuda. Dinosaurs.
Buddy i came for a car review, not the pain of how the golden 360 is gone forever
Funny how you called the Cuda the Xbox 360. I actually discovered the Cuda while playing Forza Motorsports on my Xbox 360. I didn't even know Plymouth made muscle cars let alone existed.
"If Jocko Willink's dick had a steering wheel." Is such an underappreciated line.
I agree, the Xbox 360 IS the best console ever.
After all of this, I really WANT this car now, it speaks to me and my soul. It's as broken, unreliable, outdated and dangerous to itself first and foremost as I am.
After hearing you talk about the xbox 360 I no longer trust your opinion on anything.
Dodge Lil' Red Express: am i a joke to you?
yeah, young people shouldn't drive these. they can't comprehend their existence and make comments based on sheer ignorance. shame on this family for not keeping this car in better shape. I'd be hard pressed to give $10K for this example. the engine setup is poor. i had a 74 barracuda back in the day with a 318. it was a hoot to drive. i got a 2019 challenger a couple years back and it was better in every measurable, but i only kept it a year. it was out of my time, i'm 55, and it was just too slick. made for today's drivers who need everything sanitized. lots of power but also alot of electronic controls.
I just remember that episode of Malcolm in the Middle where Malcolm keeps trying to restore a visa and it almost kills him when it traps him in the garage
It's not lazy to skip playing barracuda by heart, it's stupid
And I miss 2009 to 2010, so much simpler to live through.
Ehh xbox 360 is not the best console...ps2 was the best console of all time lol
Didn’t expect the cumtown namedrop lol
I would argue the end of the large displacement muscle car era was with the '74 Firebird/Trans-am SD455
Visceral.
Oh He is not lying, the cars from these years drive like crap!
OUR LORD AND SaViOr
Yes, the 360 was awesome
Hahah good job grinding that starter!
You don't need more than 10:1 compression to make power. Get rid of the purple cam, run a milder one and it would run on 91-93 octane. It would probably run just as hard, if not harder.
The 383 was a WAY better engine anyway! Almost impossible to blow them up!
Yeah, I love the styling of the 60s, but driving those cars is a chore. I had a '65 Impala with manual brakes, and I got my right leg workout
At 6:30 whatever is said about visibility is applicable to that 2019 Camaro shown earlier.....but worse...I owned a '74 Challenger w/a 360......I don't recall a WW2 pillbox greenhouse......leading to a severe case of claustrophobia...during a test drive......
Did Nick Mullen just get mentioned in RCR?
One thing for sure, this guy isn't man enough to drive an older car.
Now hear me out on this... Old muscle cars are completly pointles and stupid. Huge cary, huge engine, it tries to kill you etc. But thats also what makes it great.
This is the first video ive ever watched of these guys... I fucking loved it. A new sub for sure. I love how simple you start, then slowly get into nostolgic mayhem
id rather have 400 all motor and be able to beat it
That car needs some TLC. I've had E bodies and that steering is more than loose. Also had a 68 with the quick ratio steering. It was too responsive. Either way obvious it's not worth the time and they should sell it to me.
It's being restored... chipping away a little every year. Did a lot last year, doing more this year (only had it a year and a half). Never going to sell it (it's been in my family for over 40 years).
So it says this is a "clone". What's that mean? These are all the questions one must ask if ever throwing themselves into the shark tank that is today's market for these cars. And no I don't think the bug truly devalued them, it just shaved off some (but not all) of the excess of the prices these are asking for. I still see them listed for funny money on eBay. This is the most overhyped, overvalued, overpriced classic car in existence. CHANGE MY MIND
You can't add power disc brakes and sticky tires? I feel like that would make it considerably safer but I could be wrong
The thing that makes a muscle car "safe to drive" is actually knowing how to drive. People today have been dumbed down by modern tech and electronic nannies, and they've forgotten how to do a lot of fundamentally basic shit.
Yep
_Jocko Willkink?_
big block suck s
Mustangs aren't muscle cars they are pony cars
Would love to have this car
Can we bring back muscle cars but make them look like these ?!?!? I don’t want curvy muscle cars I want big blocky edges like this. Why not 😢
I think halo 2 (original Xbox) was the height of gamer shit talk toxicity, of which I played my own part. Xbox live subscription came with a head set and everyone used it.
I used to have one a these ... a tad more radical than this one though.
The 360 WAS the best 💯🤌
68' Charger...
I don't know man that dodge demon is sitting over there literally just drinking gasoline with like 800 horsepower.
40k for is? Absolutely. Maybe more
Yes you can change the rules of the car safety. Grab the old shell swap it over to a new model complete modified body frame. Lol
wow you make so many false statements. yikes
"mustang gt390 as the best muscle car" ......... not a musclecar😒
Excellent Christopher Walken intro!! 😅
Goes like a rocket ship, handles like a shopping cart and stops like a covered wagon. And my god I want it.
2:56 uuuuhm, you're Chinese
another regularcars masterpiece
Hands down, my favorite car of all time but one I know I will never own.
Takes this dude 15 minutes to say what's painfully obvious -- he just does not get it. Back to your Prius, Sparky.
Who knew a corvette club would be found zero for the plague
Holy shit a Nick Mullen shout out lol
This was my favorite car when I was young. I saw a model of one in a toy store and begged my mom to buy it for me.
The Virgin Mr. Regular vs the Chad Adam
“The cost of making a ‘60s or ‘70s car act like a modern car...” is the car’s soul. You can do that (with a lot of money), but you’ll erase what the car was to begin with: a wild, untamable beast. RCR was saying that throughout the entire video, reiterating it at every turn. Well done!
@Super Adventure I agree, I think quite a few people get into the muscle car market with the same intent some get into the house-flipping market: dress it up, make it look and sound cool, leave the actual problems alone, and profit.
Well, that guy did TRY to do that by modding the engine. Great, good on him- except for every one time it's done right (maybe- the knocking/compression issue is actually a problem- and too much HP can wreck the trans) there's 12 more idiots who do it wrong. Oh but they don't put them on eBay or B.A.T or Facebook marketplace telling the truth- hellno. They demand 80K then walk away laughing while some daddywarbucks who knows nothing about cars ends up with a broken thing he can't fix. Then tries to flip it 2 months later. Most of these are a big scam.
Thanks for reminding me how easy it was to flood a MOPAR car of that time. I used to remove the air filter in the winter, just to make it easier to stick a screwdriver or wooden chopstick in to hold open the choke. The automatic choke was thermostatically controlled, so it only opened once the choke mechanism physically warmed up, and that won't happen on a Minnesota winter day. If it stalled short before the choke warmed up, it was time to force open the choke to clear out the excess fuel. My Camry starts before I can stop pushing the START/STOP button, thanks to fuel injection.
My mother owned a 1974 Dodge Charger SE and it looked a lot like this 'Cuda from the front. My mom's Charger had a 400 c.i. V-8 and I still remember its sound pulling into the garage. It thundered and got 9.9 MPG. No, I never got to really drive it and test its limits.

Although it's been rather a lot modified from how it rolled out of the factory, you can still call this car period correct. This is very much how a drag-spec 'Cuda would have been in the early '70s. Unfortunately, that means pretty much lethal anywhere other than on a drag strip... Utter insanity, and it is a very good illustration of why the muscle car era had to end. Although these cars are fondly remembered in the warm afterglow of history, in reality they were more lethal than having bareback sex with a Penn Station rent boy...
“Plymouth ‘Cuda 440...If Jocko Willink’s dick had a steering wheel” LMAO
Great review, thank you!!
He probably got a tetanus shot after getting in that thing!!! 🤣🤣🤣
That's the sketchiest car I've seen and driving it would be terrifying. I'M IN LOVE!
I’m willing to bet that this Cuda won’t idle because it needs work.
1971 Cooter.
cumtown reference
he doesnt need to run 100 octane just get a better carb setup and a more powerful ignition system, remove whatever exaust he has under there and straight pipe it and upgrade the top end to match the beast crank he put in
If "Chicks dig giant robots." was a car.
Holy shit the steering is off 😂
Ahh 360 baby I miss it
